mostly silly stuff

Get off computer stool. Go directly to toilet. Do not take a side trip. Do not save/ joke for today. - Gorgeous George fell in a gorge, and now the gorge is gorgeous, George. - As I told a security guard one night in Gainesville: I used to be a slut for the FBI. - Brina had a little goat. She used to grab it by the throat. But when the goat grew big and strong, Brina left the goat alone. Then one day the old goat died. Poor Brina, she was mystified. - So I've been having trouble getting to the hidden places on my blogs, and trouble connecting to AOL, and trouble getting comments to show on other blogs; et, et, et, et. Well--not that I hadn't seen this before-- come to find out from Google: Your browser has cookies disabled. This time it hit me, and so I minimized out and went to my browser's advanced settings and removed the check mark from the request to clear temporary files each time my browser is not being used. It hadn't occurred to me until today that clearing the temporary files also meant cookies would be cleared. bl00351

yesterday today notes

Yesterday: Spent most of my online time changing things in AOL Mail and in my blogs. - Took a short parking lot walk. Today: In the early morning of this Memorial Day the green-tinted (beneath its heavy translucent covering just under the roof of the apartment building north of this one at its southeast corner where still growing Sturdy Bush is) light/ went dark. - My ever-changing body in its weaknesses/ forces ne to be ever innovative regarding it. - My subconscious continues its war against my conscious, but I can't let one dominate/ for I need the strengths native to each. - Having problems in my blog spaces I never had before, especially with the one migrated from AOL. The only recent major thing I did was open a Gmail account. Seems my best move might be to record and/or PDF my books. bl00344

all strung out

Mares eat oats and does eat oats and little lambs eat ivy. A kid 'll eat ivy too, wouldn't you? - In the April 27, 2009 issue of Time/ one of the results of a survey of 1000 people taken by a group of reporters who fanned out across America was: 14% said this nation is heading into a long slow decline. - According to one research, men who drink 5 glasses of water daily-- an amount that would make me feel like an innertube-- lower their risk of having a heart attack by 54%. - Beware of sodium benzoate, which is found in certain margarines and other foods, because mixing it with vitamin C is bad for one's health. Search it out. - There is something in peanut butter-- I forget what it is-- that is highly carcinogenic. I continue to eat peanut butter nonetheless. bl00341

Somehow I feel

everything I've wanted to say I've already said. It's just a matter of finding where all of it is. I could, of course, be wrong about that, even infinitely wrong. In any case, there's enough work to be done with just that I know the whereabouts of to keep me busy for months if the circumstances of my ongoing remain favorable. One project I have in mind is an annotated PDF version of 1976 Today. 366 sonnets would be in it and each would have its own page. Do need to finish posting the Brian's Brain journal, but that rest is offline and unready. --- My computer was at a tech shop for over a week. Got it back Friday afternoon. Spent the time here reading, writing, and going through boxes of materials I hadn't gotten to yet. We took my old computer system and my printer I had stopped using to a recycling place. bl00340

quik thoughts

Not that I haven't been ironic both in my words and in my life but I've grown tired of irony and not that I haven't used allusions but I have grown/ tired of allusions and of being elusive and of illusions and not that I'm never contentious but I have grwon tired of contention and of being content i o u s. - [ Note: At K H is Stephen Burt Elliptical ] bl00337

With winds gusting

through Sturdy Bush at noon, a butterfly that looked like a Monarch but seemed too small and so may have been a Viceroy was moving from one dandelion patch to another. Also caught a glimpse of a bee on this now cloudy warm day. - Have been following Bank of America this week. A slew of controversy surrounds its solvency and in particular its acquistion of Merrill Lynch. BAC stock dropped to $7 briefly--I think it was early on Tuesday--but mostly has been between $8 and $9. - Ron Silliman placed a challenging post up yesterday which I may link to so I don't have to keep visiting it. Henry Gould's comments are becoming more cogent, a fact that pleases me since I agree with most of his conclusions. - Speaking of conclusions, Coversations With Myself has entered the contest for the title of my collected works. Two others are Idiothead and Your Mother's Dead, and She's Glad. - PM 3:30 -- Mark Wallace's wallacethinksagain.blogspot.com is another site I've been visiting a lot of late. Many of the discussions re American Hybrid radiate from there and Mark nearly always states his thoughts in interesting ways. - Reminder: If you don't have a link to a site I mention, check to see if I do. bl00336

Recently

a pair of warblers or finches along with some zipping around swallows have been near Sturdy Bush. Swallows do nest in the passageways, but I would like to know what kind of bird the other two are. They may have been here past years too in a different location. Recently I've been trying to eat a can of three bean salad. It hasn't been going well. Too stringy and the kidney bean skins get stuck in my throat and other places, and the vinegar, well--it is vinegar. Will be eating the last of it tomorrow. Recently, though I haven't written any down yet, I've been noting lines I like in the anthology of poems I got from the library, and have been attempting to ascertain why I like them. Have renewed the book and will probably do a post on some of Emily Dickinson's lines first. Recently I've been trying to summon the energy to get back to posting the rest of Brian's Brain. It's a large project that once was online at Tripod. Six posts of it are done. Am not sure how many more posts will be needed, but the completed ones are in size 1 Verdana. Those remaining, therefore, will also be in size 1 Verdana. Recently in KH I posted the covers of 5 books, each by a different author, along with 1 poem from each book. A hazy theme connects the 5 poems, so I didn't comment on them. The five authors are William Michaelian, Tom Montag, David Lunde, Charles Behlen, and Gary B. Fitzgerald. bl00334

Stupid search engines

have angered me more than long enough; therefore, I have devised a test. I don't know what their problems are, but they consistently return results that assign to me (Brian Salchert) statements made by someone else. From now on/ whenever I comment (even on my own blogs), my comment will begin and end with the date and my initials. If a comment doesn't begin and/or end with this info, it is not my comment. Admittedly, my test may fail. If it does, I will end it. bl00330

change notes

Even if it does sound corny, and maybe because it does I will be staying with Baj's Lodges; but you can still use Rhodingeedaddee if you prefer it. Will be difficult, but plan to post money-related items on Money Rho and not on the node blog. Joseph Hutchison's anthology post has rekindled my desire to build a list of contemporary American poets who though not unknown are either not known in blogland or are seen as inadequate. Desire. There are others who are doing what I want to do in the places they know, and organizations with rosters into the thousands; and I am physically disadvantaged. So why should I even try? Besides, maybe those I list don't want to be so listed, or don't want to be listed by me. Hype. bl00327

Scrunched day

due to monthly grocery shopping, but though I'm still behind/ I've caught up some. Bought two envelopes and mailed my old chapbook out. Also got a film developed and over at Library Station checked out a copy of the Shorter Fifth Edition of The Norton Anthology of Poetry edited by Margaret Ferguson, Mary Jo Salter, and Jon Stallworthy. The air was brisk today but mostly clear and not cold. Had forgotten how long the film I had developed had been in my camera, and so I was like saying to the clerk: "What are these, they don't look like any pictures I took." Some are of me, which led me to say: "I look dead. Maybe I am. My body just hasn't figured it out yet." That led me into an unnecessary public meditation on life and death. If Jim Kunstler is right, there will be a massive die off of ill elderly soon if our leaders don't see the policies they are pursuing are the wrong ones. Have quit eating processed meat, and my body is saying thank you. Have gone to using one brand of nutrition drink, though I still have four bottles of a second brand to use up. I didn't buy a blender though. Am not sure what vegetables and fruits to get, and if it would be better to get them frozen. I have another month during which to decide. Had some strange dreams last night, and as I awoke from the one that came after AM 3/ a song appeared: - Attached to a Dream Yes we can. Yes I know we can. Yes I know we can because, well, yes I know we can. Yes we can. Yes I know we can. Yes, I know we can because we can. - Not sure if this song is straight or satirical. rho00325

blog notes

No Friday report at Money Rho today. The DJIA went up a bit, and most of the stocks I've been tracking went up. - As to the recommended search note beneath this blog's name, I spent much of Wednesday reading Rexroth's essay, along with visiting various blogs. One sentence from the essay: "The white race is going mad, but it is the autonomic nervous system which is out of kilter; what goes on in the head is secondary--and the autonomic nervous system is, as a whole, the organ of communion." - Spent much of Thursday visiting blogs and reading. Thursday night I left a comment beneath Martin Earl's Harriet post: Wernicke's area. Today I was back there, and I left another comment because he had left one for me which included a question about Dickinson. Martin Earl post. - Also, led to it by Don Share, I've been at Jacket 37/ reading a long Kent Johnson interview of David Shapiro. Fascinating story of natural talents coupled with the right environments. - Posted a short-form haiku at The Ghost in the Dumpster. rho00314

several thoughts 4

My day yesterday away from the computer was not pleasant. This morning all that turned around. - May open my Flutterby blog for minutiae reasons. - Even though I think the 20-books me-me is kinda si-wee, am likely to use it as a prod for a post at K H. Will see. - The market was strongly up earlier, but I so far haven't seen any reason why it should be. .8:04 - It appears there were market people who knew something/ since after a speech Bernanke gave/ the market closed +379.44. - Did open Flutterby. rho00312

several thoughts 3

There is a study out that indicates social networking is bad: it tends to infantilize the human brain. - Also this, which has been floating around for a number of years: Most Americans don't get nearly enough vitamin D3. Do your own research on this, but apparently a body can tolerate significantly more than what is recommended. - Here is a link to Gregg Greenberg's 6 Dumbest Things on Wall Street. - Water is the new oil. - In January of this year the FDA ruled that products containing carmine, a red dye made from crushed Peruvian beetles that eat a particular red berry, must reveal on the label that carmine is in the product because some people are allergic to it. * A side note: Wild red salmon are red because they eat krill. Farmed red salmon are red because they have red dye in them. - Not only is Australia near China, but it also has petroleum and natural gas and a variety of needed minerals. Do a Wikipedia iron_ore search. rho00309

several thoughts 2

Through my Google Help Features link in my Unlike List/ I sent a search complaint. I leave comments beneath posts on blogs maintained by other bloggers. When I do a search of my name, results are returned which include some of those comments, BUT allmost always nothing of my comment is there. What is there is a portion of a comment made by someone else. Obviously, there is something wrong with the algo- rithm used. This error is not peculiar to Google. All the major search engines make the same error. This problem has persisted for years. In April of 2000 I first came online. My question was: Can it be rectified? - I recommend that you go to Money Rho and watch the Karl Denninger video, listening carefully to what he says. - At Sprintedon Migrasaurus/ song lyrics 50 is up. Although I know others will enter my consciousness, my present mindset is to not post any more. I'll just place them in the notebook I am using then. - There is a link to a long article over at Linh Dinh's blog. It is entitled: How to Survive the Coming Century. This is that century. If you read nothing else in it, read the last paragraph. Chances are slim to none for our survival. - For positive news, do this search: fighting flu with engineered antibodies - Also this search if you need to know what caused the financial crisis: wired magazine gaussian copula function - At Kyphotic Hermit/ links to posts by Joseph Hutchison and Adam Fieled on the topic of greatness wait for those of you who are interested. rho00308

several thoughts

Even if one does not favor it, it appears that the ideas of American Hybrid and of hybridity have, by consensus, won the day. As a maker of poems and poem-like artifacts, definitely I am, and long have been, a hybrid; yet, I am not comfortable with that term. [ Have you ever read any thing made by that hybrid slut, baj salchert? ] I would rather be known as a u-f-o (utterly-futile-oddity) poet. Notice: I used "a" before "u-f-o" because the letter "u" sounds like "you". I put the "." outside the second quotation mark for "you" because the "." represents the end of the sentence. It has nothing to do with "you". - Regarding my love(?) for poetry and a list of 20 books that fostered said love, forget it. Yes, there are poets and poems I could list; and, of course, books (anthologies mostly) were where I first encountered them. Surveys and questionnaires make my skin itch. - I have some issues with Google and Blogger; and since help files and forums also make my skin itch, I am trying to figure out my own ways around those issues. Unfortunately, the new and improved Followers messed up the look of the bottom of this blog, and there's nothing I can do about it. One example of a work-around is: latest post info. - If David Orr's article on poetic greatness was meant to arouse discussion among poets, it was an inordinate success. rho00307

During the night and through and after dawn (angling west), snow. Miniature flakes. It was heaviest around 8:20, and by 8:45 almost imperceptible. - This is the last day-date-only title. - Another minimal song lyric is arriving. - All my heuristic math projects are in what was Salchert's Weblog (Sprintedon Hollow) and now is Sprintedon Migrasaurus. Don't know when, or even if, I will be posting more. In 1994 in Gainesville, Florida, I had a Kinko's store help me put together ten copies of a hand-written work of nearly 600 pages: Meanderings of an Amateur Mathematician. Fermat's Last Theorem was the focus of it. Convinced there was a geometrical proof, I began to seriously toy with it when I was in the Iowa MFA Program (1965-1967), but I soon/ set it aside. The mathematician now credited with proving that Fermat was right/ secretly forged on, driven by his childhood dream. At heart, what drives me is a need to accomplish more than any in my immediate family's prior generation. So far I am failing admirably. One does what one can. I do what I cannot. For several years I maintained a site at ThirdAge. In it was a project: Number Theory Investigations. That project has not yet been placed online again. Uncertain about it. I do know that someone made/ ten copies of it. - I am not your usual blogger. I am not your usual human. Just had another dozing dream. In it I lift a rug and two roaches scurry to a different hiding place. Why is it I drop into REM sleep so quickly? Why is it these dreams are consistently weird? I have an unexplainable fascination with Saturn's Titan moon. A playlet I wrote/ orbits it. - .1:21 -- Barely visible snow still. May have mentioned this, but because I have 6 posts of my old Tripod Brian's Brain log in this blog/ I will be posting the remainder of it in this blog. rho00304

Yesterday was difficult through the morning. - After midnight there's a 50% chance of wetness. - You never know what's around the corner unless you have a periscope, or command an advance guard snoop, or toss guesses into the air to see which way the winds blow. Cum see, cum saw, cum he haw haw - The DOW went down but the bank stocks went up. - At Money Rho: When buyers no longer trust - Circumstances may have finally pushed me into becoming a vegetarian. - Watched a Murray Gell-Mann TED talk. - By my irreproachable reckoning Wallace Stevens and John Ashbery are magic carpet poets. rho00302
